Amusing coincidence:
On 14 november 2019 we received news that, during the same registration period, there had been another petition with the same purpose to better integrate English in Luxembourg.
Petition 1417 was thus put on hold by the Petitions Commission, as the subject seemed redundant.
We first considered simply rallying the existing petition, but stumbled on a major difference:
The goal of our petition was to request a special and formal status for English and an update of the Law on languages, but not necessarily to introduce a full fourth administrative language equivalent to Luxembourgish, French and German.
In light of the different approach, petition 1417 has been validated by the Petitions Commission and published on 6 December 2019.
Who’s starting this petition?
We are three Luxembourgers from different back-grounds who share the opinion that something could be done about the situation of English in Luxembourg.
We have no political motivations and started this petition independently of any political affiliations.
